What to wear at a wedding: The Do’s and Don’ts

Share

The Wedding season in India is considered a festival, and rightly so, since it doesn’t fall short of any celebration. From the youngest person in the family to the eldest everyone is a part of this huge celebration. With celebrations being grand, each person wants to look their best and suits are an integral part of the dress code. In this blog, we help you tailor your look for the Indian Wedding along with a few scenarios on how you should or shouldn’t suit up for them:

This is one of the most frequent weddings that happen in India. The most generic of them all!

Do’s
Wear a two-button single-breasted suit jacket. It Is one of the most classic looks in men’s fashion. This style of suit looks good on all body types and the cut makes just about every man’s frame look longer. One thing to remember: get a suit in dark shades of blue, grey or maroon. You can always go for the all-time classic black suit. Pair these with a contrasting shirt and a slim tie.

Don’ts
Avoid wearing silver and gold together, i.e., if you wear silver cufflinks refrain from wearing a gold watch. Also, the tie length should end at or just before your belt.

Dress Code: Wedding Formals

For weddings with this dress code it is important that you are formally dressed. Nothing else will do.

Do’s
Wear a one-button single-breasted suit jacket like that is generally styled as a tuxedo. These jackets are worn for black tie events. Here, the black suit is the best choice. Remember, a bow-tie is more appropriate for these kinds of weddings than a tie. A lapel button hole plays a huge part in such weddings. Embellish the look with a rose or a carnation which will add a touch of grandeur to your suit.

Don’ts
If you wear a three-piece suit, make sure the waistcoat is not lower/higher than your belt. When wearing a tie, avoid a very small or a big tie knot and be sure to have a dimple on the tie. Also, never wear ankle-length socks. Make sure the socks cover a part of your legs.

Dress Code: Indian Wear

The big fat Indian wedding as they call it, is one the basic wedding style that happens.

Do’s
Stick to the Indian desi look for such weddings. Indian attires like the traditional Kurtas are the best and safest pick. Team the kurta with an iconic nehru jacket. You can also opt for the jodhpuri suits. They are perfect mixture of Indian and western. Make sure to wear mojari’s under the kurtas and the classic oxfords under the jodhpuri’s.

Don’ts
Don’t wear oversized pajamas. Don’t just go by the good looks of the shoes. They have to also be comfortable. Make sure to keep a contrast between the Kurta and the Nehru jacket.

Dress Code: Beach Wedding

A destination wedding is a treat for everyone who is a part of it. It is a dream wedding and it’s mostly done on beaches at extravagant destinations. So how do you suit up for something like this?

Do’s
Use linen suits which will go well with summers and protect you from the heat. Wear notch lapel suits as the setting of the entire wedding is going to be a casual one. Bright colour suits like yellows and light blues are the ones to be worn for such weddings. At this kind of wedding ceremony, suits can also be worn on shorts and paired with loafers.

Don’ts
Do not wear mismatched coloured shoes and belt. Make sure your shirt cuffs don’t extend far beyond your jacket sleeve. This is all the information you need to rock your suit. So, go out there and enjoy the wedding season and look your best.

These simple do’s and don’ts are all you need to keep you looking stylish, and to help you choose your ensemble carefully! With everyone’s social calendars full this time of the year, have your attire sorted out at a Siyaram’s store near you!
